Safe climbing on the Ferrata Hluboka
Head to the picturesque Vltava valley between Hluboka nad Vltavou and Purkarec. At a place called Karvanice, steep rock walls rise directly out of the water on the left bank of the river, along which a safe climbing route, the so-called ferrata, winds. These paths originated in the Alpine regions and have been gaining more and more fans in recent years. You don't have to be a mountaineer to climb it. The Hluboká Ferrata has the second easiest difficulty level B and its 150 m long section in part A can be managed even by beginners and families with children. A special harness with belay carabiners, the so-called ferrata set, and a helmet are required for safe climbing. This equipment can be rented in the Sports and Relaxation Complex Hluboká nad Vltavou. A more difficult section awaits climbers in part B, where you can look up to 8 metres high and climb 400 metres of the route. This section is rated C/D, which can be difficult, especially in a few sections, even for more experienced athletes. Therefore, we recommend not to underestimate the mandatory equipment and 100% gloves with you. From June 2022, section C, which is 170 metres long and marked with difficulty B, is open on the opposite bank. The advantage of this ferrata is the possibility of stopping at the nearby car park, but the alternative of trying all 3 ferrata remains on offer. If you go by water, from part C you only need to go about 900 meters downstream of the Vltava River to get to part B, then to part A. If you would like to visit all the ferratas along the cycle route, we recommend using the ferry in Purkarec and making a circuit from Hluboká with a stop at Karlova hrádek and then in Purkarec for lunch. In total, Ferrata Hluboká has 720 metres of horizontal climbing and tens of metres of vertical climbing, which is also restored here. It thus becomes the longest Czech ferrata above the surface of the river. You can go to Ferrata Hluboká on foot or by bicycle along the Hluboká - Purkarec cycle path, or by boat. There is a pier at the ferrata where you can comfortably moor your motorboat or paddleboard. If you are looking for a suitable vessel, explore the rental offer on the Vltava Trail.
